Elevator Speech

An Elevator Speech is a concise, carefully planned, and well-practiced description about what you do that a child should be able to understand in the time it would take to ride up an elevator.

Are you networking actively and not getting results? Get the most from your networking efforts. Learn how to evaluate and leverage the strength of your professional and personal network, make clear and powerful requests, and get results with your elevator speech.

A good elevator speech should contain the following:
1) A graphic picture of the pain your customers are suffering.
2) A solution how you can expertly eliminate your customers’ pain.
3) Your expertise and why you are different than the competition.
4) Gain – An explanation of the benefits that your clients receive.
5) An emotional pull –using statistics or words that make a lasting impression
6) A call to action. A reason to get in touch and keep you in mind
7) A memorable twist – a rhyme or something to associate you with what you

An Elevator Speech can be used in many different situations. The goal of an Elevator Speech is to make your listener want to know more about you and what you do. It is a door opener.

It should be in writing so you know it cold. You can be very creative in how you design your unique selling proposition.

Some techniques to that grab attention include:
1) Starting with a question.
2) Making a statement that is surprising or daring
3) Using a statistic that is not well known but grabs attention
4) Telling what you do in the form of a story or short example.

An Elevator Speech is nothing more than your unique selling proposition or USP. It should clearly state the benefits of doing business with you from your clients' perspective.

Whether you are an entrepreneur, corporate executive, dedicated staff member, student, or someone in career transition, you will become much more successful if you have an Elevator Speech that makes you totally unforgettable.

Some tips to create a memorable Elevator Speech include:
1) using a clever title
2) using a prop that is connected with what you do
3) Keeping it short and simple
4) Include an easy way to contact you
5) Give a reason to want to know more (call to action)
